After Storm Pool Service in Palm Beach

Rain and Pool Water

key-west-81665_1920Rainwater is known to have acidic properties that can negatively affect your pool water chemistry balance. This can affect anything from the pH balance to alkalinity levels and more. The pH of rain across the US, which is an acid rain, is due to industrial atmospheric gasses which results in nitric and sulfuric acid.

Rain and Pool Water

RAIN AND POOL WATER After Storm Pool Care by CCA in Wellington FloridaRainwater falling directly into your pool being a bad thing, but something even worse can happen. When you have rainwater coming off your landscape or deck, you now have an added source of water to deal with. When rainwater and ‘yard/deck rain run off’ enter the pool, they can change your water’s pH, calcium hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), alkalinity and other chemical levels as well as bring contaminants as well as dirt and debris into the pool. Because rainwater across the US is generally acidic, your pool water can become corrosive and cause damage to the plaster and metal parts of your pool.

Obviously, the harder the rainfall, the more the chemistry changes in your pool. A light rain should have little to no effect on your pool, though it’s still a good idea to test your pool water chemistry after any rainfall.

It is also a good idea to drain excess water, bringing your water to an appropriate level for proper skimming.

After a Heavy Rainfall

After a heavy rain fall, the first thing you should do is clean the water and check the water chemistry with test strips, including the pH, alkalinity and sanitizer levels.

  1. Clean Your Pool

Heavy rain comes with heavy winds, and winds can blow dirt, leaves and other debris into your pool.

First, skim your pool, then vacuum. You can use an automatic pool cleaner or manually vacuum the pool yourself. Once your pool is cleaned, you can test the water chemistry.

CCA cleaning pool service includes: vacuuming, skimming, and brushing. When these tasks are preformed every week, you will have a nice clean swimming pool.

  1. lightning-768800_1920Check pH and Alkalinity Levels

Acid rain can cause your pH to drop. When rain starts to lower the pH, the alkalinity will take the big hit. That means, your alkalinity levels might see a more drastic change than your pH levels. A quick call to Crystal Clear and your water can be tested and treated in no time.

  1. Check Sanitizer Levels

You also want to check your chlorine or sanitizer levels. Rain can often introduce contaminants to your water, and your sanitizer will start attacking the contaminants. Rain also dilutes the sanitizer levels. Your sanitizer level might be low as well. So be sure to check these levels. CCA has accurate, professional testing of pool water chemistry.

  1. Check Your Water Level

Of course, rain will add more water to your pool than what’s needed. If you have an excess of water to your pool, you can drain it a little by using your filter’s “waste” setting. Just let the pool drain until it is back at the normal level.

Should You Shock Your Pool?

Shocking your pool isn’t necessary, although, it’s not a bad idea either. If you get a heavy rain fall, you could shock your pool for good measure. This will help fight off any contaminants that the rain may have brought to your pool. Make sure you drain the water to the correct level, check your pH, alkalinity and sanitizer levels, and then after the rain has ended.

Or, sit back…and when the sun Comes out – Call Crystal Clear at 561-318-6750!

Sunny Days Raise Havoc With Your Pool _CCA Pool Service West Palm BeachCCA After Storm Pool Care West Palm Beach Florida will;

Check water level and adjust accordingly.

Skim and Remove Debris – Remove branches, leaves, and other debris from the pool with a rake and skimmer.

Check the Skimmer Baskets and Pump Strainer – There’s a good chance these have been filled with dirt and debris from the storm. We clean them out to prevent clogging the system once power is restored to the pool.

Inspect ALL Pool Equipment – Uncover the pump motor and check for water or water damage. If the equipment is dry, we can turn the power back on and start running the pool’s filtration system. If you are doing this yourself, do not turn the power back on if the equipment is wet or if there are signs of water damage. Contact a professional.

Thoroughly Clean the Pool – when the pool circulation is back on, it’s time to clean the pool. CCA will brush the pool walls and professionally vacuum your pool with commercial grade equipment.

Shock and Chemically Balance the Water – Even though you may treated the water before the storm, the organic materials in the rainwater most likely wiped out chlorine levels and lowered the water’s pH and alkalinity to unacceptable levels.

Crystal Clear Aquatics Pool Service - Lake Worth pool Cleaners

Salt Chlorination in Palm Beach County

ALL ABOUT SALT CHLORINATION IN PALM BEACH COUNTY

Crystal Clear Aquatics Pool ServiceBefore pool salt chlorinators, it was necessary to handle and store harsh chlorination chemicals in order to keep your swimming pool clean and safe for everyone to use. Today, advancements in the pool industry bring us a simpler and safer alternative called Salt Chlorination.

What is Salt Chlorination?

Salt Chlorination is the natural and more convenient alternative sanitization method when compared to traditionally harsh liquid or solid chemical chlorine. Hayward’s patented salt systems convert dissolved salt into just the right amount of chlorine, resulting in clean, clear, luxuriously soft water that is both less work and worry for you. In the long run it’s lighter on your wallet as well.

How Popular is Salt Chlorination?

Nearly 1 million households worldwide have chosen to sanitize their pools with Hayward Salt Chlorination Systems. Salt satisfies 100% of your pool and spa’s sanitization needs, always leaving you with clean, clear, and luxuriously soft water without you lifting a finger.

Softer water with salt chlorination in palm beach county4 Reasons to Choose a Salt Chlorinated Pool

  1. Saves up to 50% over traditional chlorine
  2. Water feels luxuriously soft and silky
  3. Easy to maintain Hayward’s reliable systems
  4. Reduces skin and eye irritation and won’t smell like chlorine

Converting to a Salt Chlorinated Pool is Easy

With salt chlorination, you can get all the benefits of a conventional chlorinated pool – clean, clear water – without the negative side-effects, like chemical odors and irritated skin and eyes. Instead of using chemical chlorine to sanitize your pool, salt chlorine generators work by converting conventional salt into chlorine. Simple and effective.

Here’s how it works: Salt is added to the pool, and then pumped through an electrolytic cell where it’s converted to chlorine and then pumped back into the pool. The result is a clean, clear, luxuriously soft water that is less work and worry for you – and your wallet.

How Do I Maintain A Salt Chlorinated Pool?

As with any pool, you need to check pH, alkalinity, hardness and chlorine levels on a regular basis. Salt chlorination, which does not vary much, should be also be checked regularly. Depending on the use of your pool, you may need to adjust your salt chlorinator’s chlorine production to a higher or lower output level to keep the chlorine level where it needs to be. If there have been a large number of swimmers in the pool, if you have had heavy rain or if the pool water is cloudy, you can put the chlorinator into “Super Chlorinate” mode where it will automatically generate the maximum amount of chlorine for the next 24 hour period. Salt Cells should be inspected for calcium build up about every 500 hours of use (our systems have a “Check Cell” LED light will illuminate every 500 hours to be used as a reminder) and cleaned if necessary.

If you are looking for salt chlorination in Palm Beach County give Crystal Clear Aquatics a call and schedule a visit for technical advice and help choosing salt chlorination products that are right for your pool, along with a professional installation.

Did You Know?
A drop of water from a salt chlorinated pool contains less salt than a human tear. Here is a list of typical salt levels in common:
hayward - salt chlorination in palm beach countyOcean Water – 35,000 PPM
Human Tear – 9,000 PPM
Salt Pools – 3,000 PPM

For any pool, salt water operated or not, a drop in pH can be the biggest culprit to equipment damage, particularly metals. As for salt, some metal damage can occur overtime if the system is not properly installed—proper installation means proper electrical grounding and bonding of the equipment. Likewise, using the correct quantity of salt in your pool produces luxurious, clean water. Too little and the water can be unsafe for use, too much salt can be corrosive to pool decks, railings, and equipment. Play it safe by contacting Crystal Clear Aquatics to ensure you have the correct system for your pool and that you are using the correct amount of salt in your pool.

Crystal Clear Aquatics Pool Service

Pool Service in Wellington

Here are three great reasons to call Crystal Clear Aquatics for Pool Service in Wellington

  • Crystal Clear Aquatics is the “crystal clear” choice for pool service in Wellington. We are locally owned and we are not part of a national chain with shareholders to answer to. One huge downfall to large national swimming pool service companies are also their high turnover rates. Additionally, many of these pool companies hire inexperienced employees and provide minimal training. Crystal Clear pool technicians are chemists, engineers, and plumbers all rolled into one.
  • The problem most homeowners have with the chemical balance is they are typically reactive to a situation that pops up instead of checking the water balance on a proactive basis. A swimming pool can go from sparkling clear to an algae filled mess in just one day. Lack of a proper chemical balance, filtration and a sudden heat wave is the perfect scenario for this kind of situation. With Crystal Clear, we spot little problems before they become BIG problems.  Crystal Clear is proactive in protecting your backyard investment.

Lastly…. if you have small children, here is an overlooked reason to consider CCA for Pool Service in Wellington.

  • pool service in wellingtonFamilies with small children should always consider a maintenance company like CCA , due to the fact that no dangerous chemicals will need to be stored at your home. Our pool technician comes by, cleans the pool and checks the water balance, adds whatever is needed and leaves nothing behind. Pool chemicals are very powerful and dangerous in their concentrated form (and can be when improperly added to the pool as well) so having them around or anywhere near your house is a recipe for  a potential disaster when little folks are involved.

A pool or spa is an enormous investment. Spend a little bit and give it some tender loving care.

Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS)

The latest development in pool safety, Safety Vacuum Release Systems (SVRS) is found in an unlikely place, your pool pump. Pool owners will want to consider adding a pump equipped with a safety vacuum release system to help prevent entrapment, which may result in serious injury or drowning.

Why should you install a Pump with Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS)?

The drain(s) at the bottom of the pool works to supply water to the pool pump, where it is filtered. The pump draws the water into the drain through suction. If an object covers the drain, the pump continues to exert suction in an effort to draw water into the pump. Swimmers have been entrapped when their hair or other body parts, come into contact with the drain and is a direct cause of serious injury or death.

A Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) helps prevent suction entrapment. Here’s how it works:

  1. SVRS monitors pool pump pressure.
  2. When a drain is blocked by an object, SVRS detects the change in pressure.
  3. In a stand-alone system, SVRS releases a vent, allowing the object to be released. In a pump equipped with the system, SVRS shuts the motor down, allowing the object to be released. If the trapped object is a person, SVRS may prevent injury and may even save a life.

Safety acts to prevent suction entrapment

A suction vacuum release system is a recommended safety feature for home pools and is required for all commercial swimming pools by the Pool & Spa Safety Act of 2007. The purpose of this safety act is to prevent pool and spa drain entrapment. The Act requires all public pools and spas to have compliant drain covers and an additional anti-entrapment system, such as SVRS, when there is a single blockable drain.

The National Swimming Pool Foundation offers additional information and resources from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) about making pools and spas safer. CPSC safety guidelines have been referenced in many state and local building codes.

The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals has excellent information about drain cover safety and entrapment protection. Crystal Clear Aquatics always recommends one of their many helpful tips: “Never run your pump at higher speeds than the recommended maximum. High water velocity can contribute to suction entrapment.”

Installing SVRS in your pool, spa or hot tub

safety vacuum release system In ground pools, above ground pools, spas and hot tubs all can be made safer with the simple addition of a suction vacuum release system. CCA carries the full line of Hayward pool pumps. Hayward’s EcoStar SVRS variable speed pump offers pool owners the additional layer of suction entrapment protection. The EcoStar SVRS is also the industry’s most energy efficient pump at any speed, saving up to 90% on energy costs over a single speed pump. Even better, there are no additional equipment, plumbing, or wiring needed for the safety vacuum release system.

Pumps with a safety vacuum release system are an excellent safety investment and are affordable as well.

Contact Crystal Clear Aquatics to learn more about how to protect the safety of your family and guests, as well as save on energy costs.
