Florida presents its own special set of pool problems, especially those pesky Florida Green Algae Blooms. Green algae often appears as a green tint on the walls and/or bottom of the pool and your swimming pool water. The easiest way to prevent green algae blooms is by using a professional pool and spa maintenance company like Crystal Clear Aquatics. But if you are managing your swimming pool care, here are some ways to deal with the invasion of little green men.
To kill green algae, you need to use chlorine “pool shock”. Shocking uses granular form of highly concentrated chlorine, which quickly raises the chlorine level of the swimming pool water, killing off all of the algae. Be sure to brush the walls and floor of your swimming pool, loosening the algae in order to expose more of it to the shock chemicals, and aim for a pH of about 7.5.
If your swimming pool does not show considerable improvement after 24 hours, consider calling Crystal Clear! If it worked, the dead algae will turn lighter greyish/white and now you need to vacuum the pool thoroughly to pick up all the dead critters. Be sure to backwash your filter! Miss this and you’ll risk another bloom.
After washing the filter, test and balance all of your swimming pool chemicals. If you’d like to be 100% sure, call CCA and we’ll visit to help ensure your pool is properly balanced.
